چکیده

In this demo and poster paper, we describe the concept and implementation of an ontology-based storyteller for fairy tales. Its main functions are (i) annotating the tales by extracting timeline information, characters and dialogues with corresponding emotions expressed in the utterances, (ii) populating an existing ontology for fairy tales with the previously extracted information and (iii) using this ontology to generate a spoken version of the tales. Common natural language processing technologies and resources, such as part-of-speech tagging, chunking and semantic networks have been successfully used for the implementation of the three tasks mentioned just above, including the integration of an open source text-to-speech system. The code of the system is publicly available.

Short Paper: Virtual Storyteller in Immersive Virtual Environments Using Fairy Tales Annotated for Emotion States

This paper describes the implementation of an automatically generated virtual storyteller from fairy tale texts which were previously annotated for emotion. In order to gain insight into the effectiveness of our virtual storyteller we recorded face, body and voice of an amateur actor and created an actor animation video of one of the fairy tales. We also got the actor’s annotation of the fairy ...

Emotional Sequencing and Development in Fairy Tales

Affect is a transient phenomenon, with emotions tending to blend and interact over time [4]. This paper discusses emotional distributions in child-directed texts. It provides statistical evidence for the relevance of emotional sequencing, and evaluates trends of emotional story development, based on annotation statistics on 22 Grimms’ fairy tales which form part of a larger on-going text-annota...

It focuses on the linguistic analysis of a Fairy Tales Corpus, and provide...

Robust spoken language understanding in a computer game

We present and evaluate a robust method for the interpretation of spoken input to a conversational computer game. The player himself cannot directly perform actions in the world, but interacts with ...

ALAN v30n2 - Familiar Fairy Tale Picture Books Transformed into Teen Novels

Once upon a time in faraway places, stories were told around campfires and hearths among family and friends. Eventually these oral stories were written down and some were illustrated. Two of the best-known names in written folk literature are the Frenchman Charles Perrault and the Grimm Brothers of Germany. In 1697 Perrault published a collection entitled Tales of Mother Goose, and from 1812 to...
